Mountain Valley Pipeline Information
Status of the FERC process
The FERC is reviewing comments to the Draft Environmental Impact Statement and requesting additional information from MVP. The projected schedule is for the FERC to issue a Final EIS in March 2017. After the Final EIS is issued, FERC Commissioners are expected to make a decision.
TAKE ACTION
The West Virginia DEP needs to hear from you!
In order for the MVP project to proceed, MVP must receive water-related permits and certification from the WV Dept. of Environmental Protection. The WVDEP has announced its public comment period for the Natural Streams Preservation Act Permit (affects the Greenbrier River); the State 401 Water Quality Certification, and the Stormwater Permit (aka Oil and Gas Water Pollution Control Permit). More information about making comments to come, but keep these dates in mind:
- Public Comment Meeting: Summers Memorial Building (451 1st Ave in Hinton) on Tuesday March 7, 2017 beginning at 6 PM
- Deadline for comments: March 19, 2017 at 8 PM
U.S. Forest Service still needs to hear from you!
- Comment to the Forest Service about MVP plans to cross the Jefferson National Forest and Appalachian Trail. Respond to the proposal to create a 500-ft “Utility Corridor” across Peters Mountain.
- Write and email the Forest Service. Urge them to follow the process the USFS has in place to evaluate the radical changes to the Forest Service Land and Resource Management Plan that would be required to permit the MVP. They should not be rushed. They should not give up their independent responsibility. They should not adopt the FERC’s Environmental Impact Statement for agency decisions concerning amendments to the Land and Resource Management Plan.
